Penny's Bay, Hong Kong Decontamination Works Site

MT teamed with Leighton Asia Environmental Services (LAES) to perform remedial action at the former Cheoy Lee Shipyards site at Penny's Bay on Lantau Island. LAES managed the overall site remediation, while MT provided technical assistance and thermal treatment operations.

The fast-tracked site remediation was part of the Disneyland Theme Park construction. Site assessments had indicated that the primary site contaminants were dioxins, metals, and TPH/SVOCs. MT's Indirect Thermal Desorption System (IDS) was assessed to be a viable solution for the site.

Prior to full-scale treatment operations, MT conducted a rigorous and highly regulated Compliance Test Program (CTP). Although the IDS has a longstanding and proven track record, the CTP ensured that system parameters could treat site-specific materials in accordance with license conditions. Based on the CTP results, LAES was granted the license to use MT's IDS to conduct the remedial operations.

MT mobilized a team of experienced thermal project managers and operators to the site to setup and run the IDS. Overall, MT processed 54,000 tons of contaminated soils from the Penny's Bay site through our TSCA permitted IDS.
