GE River Works Plant Decontamination And Disassembly Operations
Since 1991, Maxymillian Technologies (MT) has consistently completed a
series of decontamination and disassembly projects at GE's Aircraft
Engines River Water Works Plant in Lynn, MA.
Selected Project Descriptions:
Multi-Phase Decontamination & Water Treatment Installation
The first project was a three-year, multi-phase building remediation
that included PCB & asbestos abatement, equipment decontamination
and removal, water treatment system (1,000 gallons per minute)
installation, and cleaning and closure of numerous sumps, conduits and
tunnels.
Building 64 Project Development Laboratory Basement
MT decontaminated PCB contaminated brick walls and concrete flooring to
less than 100 ppm. MT encapsulated the exposed brick walls and applied
epoxy to floors to prevent water seepage. PCB water was treated using
MT's mobile water treatment system and discharged via GE's NPDES
permit.
Saltwater Conduits Closure MT closed out
selected saltwater conduits and pipes, and decontaminated PCB surfaces
and piping. MT collected and treated water & washwater from all
operations with MT's on-site Series III system.
Building 64 - Five Remaining Areas MT
disassembled, decontaminated, and removed PCB-contaminated equipment
and its associated piping from five areas in Building 64. MT's scope of
work involved: maintaining site safety measures, installing temporary
decontamination areas and waste storage areas, draining and containing
fluids, disassembling equipment and associated piping, decontaminating
contaminated equipment and loading into roll-offs for off-site disposal
by others.
Bay 19 MT remediated a large
PCB-contaminated area at the GE Lynn Bay 19 Gear Plant. Site work
included: scarifying the floor in the production & generation
areas, cleaning the floor with surfactant and chemical extractant, and
wiping/cleaning the walls of production area. Stonhard installed new
mortar, floor coatings, and encapsulant. MT then decontaminated all
equipment, restored the site and demobilized.
